In 2019, the Oak St SE and Delaware St SE intersection was upgraded to include a floating transit island (i.e. a separate space for transit riders to enter and exit the bus adjacent to the protected bikeway).

The project included new pedestrian ramps at all four corners of the intersection, new crosswalk markings, and an upgraded signal system. The project replaced the large majority of delineators that divide the bikeway with a raised concrete median to make the separation between the two-way bicycle lane and the existing parking more clear.

This is an extension of the raised median protected bicycle lane that exists between Essex St SE and West River Parkway.
